Marine CIU Communication & Safety Units

Brand: Honeywell International Inc
The Marine CIU is a Data Concentrator and Processor for up to 32 Tanks (equipped with EMx40 FMCW radar gauges) and 112 additional analog sensor inputs, in a 19” cabinet.

It calculates and displays parameters such as levels, volumes, temperatures, pressures.

What Is It?

The marine CIU features ultra-low power consumption, advanced communications capabilities like HART, wireless, GPS data. Its intuitive touch-screen interface can be easily duplicated anywhere on the ship, and even display the real-time values on a smartphone app.

Communication Unit
The TA3840C Communication Unit is intended for use with monitoring and loading systems. It can connect four independent communication ports using the Modbus remote terminal unit (RTU) protocol.

The TA3840C displays parameters such as cargo level, temperature and IG pressure. The unit can be installed in a 19-inch rack and includes a supply board, central unit board for data processing, function keyboard, and display unit with LCD screen for measurement and alarm data.

Approved by major international classification societies, the TA3840C provides two slots for one or two analog 4-20 mA input boards (48 channels) or for one or two multifunction I/O boards (8 x 4-20mA, 24 binary out and 16 binary in).

Safety Unit
Approved by major international classification societies, the TA3840S Safety Unit consists of a 19-inch rack in which radar power supply boards are inserted. Each rack has eight available slots (one slot for two radars) and the maximum configuration is four rack (up to 64 radars). The radar level transmitters are directly configured via RS232 port of each radar power supply board.

How Does It Work?

The Marine CIU communicates with all sensors on board, calculates the volume and sends the resultant data to the ship system, including CargoBoss, Load Computer, and the Integrated Control and Monitoring System (ICMS). Safe and redundant communication is ensured with the use of the RS485 Modbus RTU protocol or Ethernet Modbus TCP/IP, thereby also guaranteeing perfect interoperability.

Together with the EM540 radar gauge, the T901 pressure and temperature sensors, the CT801 electro-pneumatic level gauge, the PL3700X pressure sensors, the Marine CIU makes a complete system for cargo, ballast and service tank monitoring.

What Problems Does It Solve?

Tankers and FPSO are the most vulnerable to imbalance. The Marine CIU gauging system is the fundamental tool for seafarers to monitor the ship balance continuously. It also ensures effective ballast management.
